I give David’s Automotive a 2 Star rating. I would be tempted to give him 3 because he and his current employees do good work and can fix about anything. However, the way he treats his customers from my experience is not the best.
In the past 3 year or so I have taken my cars to David 4-5 times and spent in the range of $3000-$4000 , $2000 in the past month on two of them, and they do good work from what I can tell. But this last time I went to get my 87 Fiero there was a chip in the rear spoiler. I was not upset as I know anything can be fixed just a bit disappointed but when I asked David about it, at first he was irritated that it had happened but was helpful in getting it fixed for me saying that he would do it but I made the point that it would take up a bay in his shop, he would have to buy paint that he would never use again, and I didn’t want him to be out a whole lot of money seeing that he was saying it would take hours to fix. So we agreed I would get someone to fix it and he would give me some money on the repair. I felt pretty good about our conclusion as I was looking out for not only my interest but his as well as I understand accidents can/do happen and that is okay and David seemed good with it as well.
I had my car towed to them and they fixed it the very next day. The lady I talked to several times was very nice. I told them my water pump was leaking and they gave me an estimate. The next day I was told instead of over $400 it was only $125 to repair the problem. They could have easily just gone with the first estimate but didnt. I really appreciated their honesty and how quickly my car was fixed. No I'm not family. I've actually never even been there before. I just know that most people that are happy with repairs don't write a review so I wanted to make sure I did. Good job Davids.
When I gave him a call the following Monday to just talk about the spoiler David’s tone the second he heard it was me was completely different. Without me saying two words he was on the phone screaming, yelling, and cussing about having to get this fixed saying that it was parked outside and that a car driving by could have thrown a rock on it and chipped it and just ranting. I, being the passive person I am, sat there driving to work thinking how unprofessional and just childish he was acting when the week before we were in an agreement that he would give me something on the fix. I finally got a few words in saying, “David I am done with the spoiler, I don’t wanna talk about that, I am done with it if you want to act this way. But I do have another question about my car so can we let it go?” He abruptly responded, “Yeah, I’ll let it go!” and hung up. Not too surprised, as from his ranting I already got a feel for the kind of person he can be, I called him back. When I got him on the phone he was quick to start back on the subject but I was quicker to get it him off of it so I could ask him about something else he had worked on to see if he thought it was the same issue or something else. He calmed down and we talked a bit about it and then I went back to the spoiler now that he was thinking straight. I said to David that I was not calling to pester him about the chip and that in no way, shape or form was I demanding he fix it but the previous week we were in agreement but after his behavior I don’t want anything from him (which was obviously what he wanted either way). He went on to say, “Well I get blamed for so much around here and I just get tired of it and I have been doing this for over 20 years”. I responded with, “I work in customer service as well and I know how aggravating a customer can be but by no means does that give anyone any right to treat a customer the way you have me. That is not the way you handle business”. After that he did not have too much to say as I felt that he realized he was in the wrong in acting the way he did.
I have 2 vans, a truck and a Car and they are always fair, fast and honest.
This is not a first for me to experience this from David and I also feel he abuses price markups on parts but that is not the subject of this post. To sum it up I give David 2 Stars for his unprofessionalism, the inability to handle a situation, keep a level head, and going back on his word. If you are looking for a mechanic shop I would go elsewhere. Things happen, that's life, there is no need to act as childish as he did and for this reason I will no longer do any business or recommend anyone to David’s Automotive.
Whom ever typed the first review must be family, just not in the know about vehicles, and/or plain high . I broke down at Wendy's in white house 3 miles, IF THAT, from their shop. I have a drive train warrenty that covered my axle payment that was 188. I then needed a hub assembly. I know that assembly only costs 109 from O'Reilly cause i called them myself. In total they are charging me 529.39 or some thing like that. I asked for a break down over phone and at first the lady said she wouldn't know or "didn't have it in front of her", but i asked again and again. Finally, the break down:40 dollars tow, 209 for the HUB, and the rest is labor/diagnosis. I called RONS garage right down the road and they told me to do my hub assembly it would cost 200 dollars. David was very rude to me on the phone when i did get to speak to him, granted he might have been busy, but ALWAYS make time for your new customers! Noone take their vehicles on that property, hell they'd probably charge you for thatWell def bring him over. Sorry been busy with helping Amber and putting jayden to bed
EDIT- To the owners response I am not surprised at him denying it. He has the right, but to say my car is not in good shape. Look at this classic, it's clean. It may have been dirty from storage but that chip was fresh.
Very nice understanding person and listens to you.
